Brief overview of the role and project:

We’re looking for an experienced Telecoms Surveyor with strong knowledge of the Openreach contract, particularly in PIA (Physical Infrastructure Access) and FTTP network design. You’ll play a vital role in the planning and feasibility stages of network build projects, carrying out detailed site surveys that guide efficient, cost-effective, and fully compliant delivery.

Knowledge & Key Skills:

  • Proven experience as a Surveyor within telecoms infrastructure, ideally working under the Openreach contract.

  • Strong understanding of Openreach PIA, FTTP design, and civils requirements.

  • Familiarity with BT/Openreach planning tools, such as Orion, OH/UG structures, and network records.

  • Competency with digital mapping/GIS software and survey recording tools (e.g., QGIS, Visio, or similar).

  • NRSWA Operative (desirable).

  • SA002, S11, S13 or other Openreach accreditations.

  • Excellent attention to detail and technical communication skills.

  • Full UK driving licence (essential).

Accountabilities:

  • Conduct detailed site and desktop surveys to assess feasibility for new fibre installations under the Openreach PIA and Civils contracts.

  • Identify and document existing infrastructure (ducts, poles, chambers) and any potential obstructions or risks.

  • Use GIS and survey tools to produce accurate, high-quality survey packs and redline drawings for the design and build teams.

  • Recommend optimal routing solutions based on Openreach engineering principles and local authority requirements.

  • Liaise with design, build, and compliance teams to ensure survey outputs align with project requirements.

  • Ensure all survey work complies with Openreach standards, including use of the appropriate codes and conventions.

  • Attend pre-start meetings and handovers to clarify survey findings and support project planning.

  • Keep up-to-date with Openreach documentation, technical updates, and any changes to PIA processes or requirements.
